Second-graders Continuing Cross-Curricular Activity

Mars Area Elementary School second-graders are continuing work on a space-themed, cross-curricular project in their STEAM classes.

The students began the project in their Art classes by blotting paint onto black paper to create galaxy backgrounds inspired by photographs taken by the James Webb Space Telescope.

In their STEAM classes, second-graders applied their tape-tearing skills to add tape to two opposite corners of their canvas, before poking holes in the corners. The students then used basic knot-tying (square knot) techniques to connect a string through the holes.

The students then adhered origami space shuttles (made in their STEAM classes) with tissue paper flames (added in Art class) to the string to enable the rocket ship to move across the backdrop. The students will now use their creations as part of a stop-motion animation project.
