School Assembly, Lessons Focus on Kindness, Respect

Students at Mars Area Elementary School are learning about “The Mars Way.”

Earlier in the school year, students in each grade level (2-4) attended an Expectation Lesson led by the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) Team, which talked with students about the “The MARS Way.”

Make good choices
Always be kind
be Ready to learn
Stay safe

The initiative, which was introduced at Mars Area Primary Center during the 2023-2024 School Year, recognizes and awards students for positive behavior.

On Sept. 6, students attended a PBIS Assembly with motivational speaker Jim “Basketball” Jones, who discussed the importance of being kind, respectful and responsible.

“Everyone is important and everyone matters. When you walk into school, be kind to everyone,” said Jones. “Always make good choices. Look out. Help out. Do something.”

In addition to discussing how to build and be part of a positive school community, Jones offered students a chance to demonstrate how to be kind and do the right thing through various interactive games and activities such as Simon Says and a Student/Teacher Dance-Off.

Mars Planet Foundatuion sponsored the PBIS Assembly. For more information, call (724) 625-3161.
