Mars Area School Board has appointed Dr. Samantha Flanhofer as the Acting Assistant Principal at Mars Area Elementary School.
“I am both honored and humbled to be appointed as the Assistant Principal at Mars Elementary School,” says Flanhofer. “I am enthusiastic about the new opportunities that lie ahead and am eager to support the staff, students, and families at MAE.”
For the last two school years, Flanhofer served as a fourth grade teacher at the school. Prior to that, she was a life skills teacher at Mars Area High School for seven years.
Prior to joining the District, she was a learning support teacher (9-12) and life skills teacher (K-5) at Ambridge Area School District; a long-term substitute fifth grade and first grade teacher at Pine-Richland School District; and a paraprofessional in a K-4 autistic support classroom at Allegheny Valley School District.
Flanhofer holds a doctorate in special education as well as special education supervisor and principal certifications from Slippery Rock University; a master’s degree in reading education and reading specialist from the University of Pittsburgh; a master’s degree in special education from Waynesburg University; and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with an urban education emphasis from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
The District created the assistant principal position to accommodate continued growth at Mars Area Elementary School and to prepare for the upcoming extensive expansion project planned at the building. A second school counselor has been added at the building as well.
