Five Mars Area Elementary School third-graders received awards in the 2023-2024 Highmark Caring Place Children’s Grief Awareness Day Poster Contest.

Third-grader Aarna Dubey was named the overall winner and received a Certificate of Excellence and a $100 Amazon gift card. Her poster will be reprinted and distributed to Western Pennsylvania schools in Fall 2024.

Entries submitted by third-graders Elizabeth Evans and Olivia Evans and by third-graders Aleena Syed and Anastasia Trombulak were selected as finalists in the annual contest. The students will receive a Certificate of Excellence and a $25 Amazon gift card.

The contest asked students to design a poster on the theme, “How to Help a Grieving Friend,” illustrating how even the smallest acts of kindness can help a person who is grieving.
