Several Mars Area School District students competed in the Academic Games League of America (AGLOA) Equations academic competition, held Feb. 7 at Slippery Rock University.
Fifth-graders Hannah Nam and Kristin Sadhu as well as fourth-graders Jack Baumgartel and Lila Demetris went undefeated in the competition. In addition, one Fourth Grade Team placed fifth out of 28 teams and a Fifth Grade Team tied for eighth place out of 54 teams.
Other participating students included Mars Area Centennial School sixth-grader Jackson Wagner and fifth-graders Reese Carrel, Noah Fecich, Ellie Kurnocik, Maxwell McEwen, Giovanni Morales, Benen Pears, Seth Pedicone, Alison White and Chaarvi Yogesh; as well as Mars Area Elementary School fourth-graders Cayley Chaffee, Alex Chernykh, Hannah Craver, Asher Detore, Lucy Harrison, Bennett Kreit, Landon Lewis, Ashrith Muppala, Ellie Spaulding and Adalyn Stuber, and third-graders Noah Bergdahl, Olivia Evans, Kendall Fonzi, Angelo Navari, Eleanor McCauley, Everly Northrop and Charlie Xuan.
Equations is a game of creative mathematics that challenges players to apply their knowledge and ability and to develop new skills. The annual competition is open to students in Grades 4-12 at Butler, Lawrence and Mercer county schools.
