Mars Girls Youth Basketball Association’s Fourth Grade Gold Team took second place in the Pennsylvania Middle School Youth Basketball Championships, held March 15-17 in State College, Pa.

Throughout the event, the team thwarted CBAA Stromberg (24-6), Spring-Ford (20-12), and Shaler (31-16); but were defeated by Whitpain in the championship game. The team ended the season with a record of 35-1.

Team members include Mars Area Elementary School fourth-graders Reagan Anke, Samantha Beckert, Cayley Chaffee, Avery Cooper, Lila Demetris, Ariana Guerrieri, Amelia Lavrinc, Hailey Rodgers and Nora Wiley.

2024 Hampton Rockets Girls Basketball Tip-Off Spring Classic Tournament

Mars Girls Youth Baasketball Association’s Fourth Grade Gold Team took first place in the 2024 Hampton Rockets Girls Basketball Tip-Off Spring Classic Tournament, held March 1-3.

The team, which competed in the Fifth Grade Division, went undefeated, conquering Quaker Valley (33-8), Sacred Heart (38-4), Hampton (25-15), and, in the championship game, Elizabeth Forward (24-16). The team will advance to the Pennsylvania Middle School Youth Basketball Championships, to be held March 15-17 in State College, Pa.

Team members include Mars Area Elementary School fourth-graders Reagan Anke, Samantha Beckert, Cayley Chaffee, Avery Cooper, Lila Demetris, Ariana Guerrieri, Amelia Lavrinc, Hailey Rodgers and Nora Wiley. This season, the team has an overall record of 32-0.

2023-2024 Pittsburgh Youth Basketball League Playoffs

Mars Girls Youth Basketball Association’s Fourth Grade Girls Gold Travel Basketball Team took first place in the 2023-2024 Pittsburgh Youth Basketball League (PYBL) Playoffs.

The team defeated Franklin Regional (22-9) in the quarterfinals; Avonworth (23-15) in the semifinals; and Shaler (21-9) in the final game to earn the title, “Champions of Best in the Burgh PYBL.” The team will advance to compete in the Pennsylvania Middle School Youth Basketball Championships to be held March 15-17 in State College, Pa.

Team members include Mars Area Elementary School fourth-graders Reagan Anke, Samantha Beckert, Cayley Chaffee, Avery Cooper, Lila Demetris, Ariana Guerrieri, Amelia Lavrinc, Hailey Rodgers and Nora Wiley. This season, the team holds an overall record of 23-0 and is 14-0 in the PYBL regular season.

PRYC Holiday Basketball Tournament

Mars Girls Youth Basketball Association’s Fourth Grade Girls Gold Travel Basketball Team earned first place in the PRYC Holiday Basketball Tournament, held Dec. 28.

The team remained undefeated throughout the tournament, taming North Allegheny 29-11 in the championship game. Team members include Mars Area Elementary School fourth-graders Reagan Anke, Samantha Beckert, Cayley Chaffee, Avery Cooper, Lila Demetris, Ariana Guerrieri, Amelia Lavrinc, Hailey Rodgers and Nora Wiley.
