Several Mars Area School District students competed in the Academic Games League of America (AGLOA) LinguiSHTIK academic competition, held Dec. 14 at Slippery Rock University.
In the Grades 3-4 Division, two fourth grade teams earned second and third place overall. In the Grades 5-6 Division, one fifth grade team took fifth place overall. Fourth-grader Jack Baumgartel went undefeated throughout the competition.
Other participating students were sixth-graders Everly Henderson, Emma Johnston, Jackie Li, Mary Rhenish and Jackson Wagner; fifth-graders Reese Carrel, Noah Fecich, Ellie Kurnocik, Maxwell McEwen, Hannah Nam, Benen Pears, Seth Pedicone, Alison White and Chaarvi Yogesh; fourth-graders Cayley Chaffee, Alex Chernykh, Hannah Craver, Lila Demetris, Asher Detore, Lucy Harrison, Bennett Kreit, Landon Lewis, Ashrith Muppala, Ellie Spaulding, Adalyn Stuber and Max Veneziano; and, third-graders Noah Bergdahl, Kendall Fonzi, Jane Lyons, Eleanor McCauley, Angelo Navari, Everly Northrop, Olivia Evans and Jessica Li.
LinguiSHTIK, which challenges students in grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and writing skills, asks players to compose sentences with proper grammar application and richer vocabulary. The competition, open to students in Grade 4-12, brings together students from schools Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties through Midwestern Intermediate IV.
