Under the direction of Butler County Community College education students, Mars Area Elementary School third-graders participated in an “Escape the EMOJI Turkey Farm” activity.
The students were asked to complete puzzles and games focused on several English/Language Arts topics (characterization, main idea, and theme). Third-graders read three stories — “Our Celebrations” about the Japanese holiday, Kinro Kansha no Hi (Labor Thanksgiving Day); “Turkey Pardon” about two turkeys seeking a presidential pardon, first offered for turkeys by President George H.W. Bush in 1989; and “Thanksgiving Gone Wrong... or Right?,” about a family’s holiday mishaps — and completed five challenges associated with each.
The activity was offered as part of a continued collaboration between Mars Area Elementary School and Butler County Community College’s Early Childhood Education program.
