Mars Area Elementary School custodian Bob Elliott, affectionally known as "Mr. Bob," is retiring after 10 years in the District.
Elliott joined Mars Area School District in 2013 and, in 2016, was recognized for his quick action to aid an elementary student who was choking in the school’s cafeteria. He performed the Heimlich maneuver, which proved to be life-saving. For his efforts, Elliott was selected to receive a 2016-2017 Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) Butler Chapter Lauretta Woodson Award.
“He has been such a tremendous asset to Mars Area Elementary School,” says Todd Lape, principal. “His shoes are going to be hard to fill.”
Elliott holds an associate’s degree in business from Pennsylvania State University as well as an associate’s degree in prosthetics and orthotics. He previously worked as a residential frame carpenter, followed by being a stay-at-home dad for several years.
In his retirement, Elliott plans to spend time with his family. A Saxonburg resident, he is married his high school sweetheart, Mary. The couple has three children, Blaine, Sam and Cameron.
