Fourth-graders in Stephanie Graff’s class at Mars Area Elementary School transformed their classroom into a mock-hospital operating room as part of a Reading Skills Activity on April 20.
Students donned surgical hats, along with doctor’s name badges, for the activity, which offered a review of reading skills before the students took the English/Language Arts PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment).
Students read passages, to diagnose their “patients” answered questions, and identified text evidence based on reading skills such as theme, point of view, text structure, character traits, context clues and text features. The students then worked to diagnose and treat their “patients” by playing the board game, Operation.
