For more than a year, Ashlynd has been collecting coats, gloves, hats, blankets, food, water, toiletries and more to support homeless individuals in and around the Pittsburgh area through “Ashlynd’s Homeless Project.”
“Ashlynd was commenting on new house builds she observed. She was disturbed to see people building new houses for themselves, when she felt strongly that all of the new houses should be built for the homeless population. She couldn’t wrap her mind around the idea of one being homeless.” said Amber Warba, Ashlynd's mother. Ashlynd later shared with her mother a dream in which she was shopping for the homeless and bought over half of the store with her own money.
“I asked her if she wanted to create a project for the homeless,” said Amber Warba. “She came up with a wish list, initiating the ideas, list and vision all on her own.”
Since then, Ashlyn has raised thousands of dollars in donations and served the Pittsburgh homeless population by hand delivering care packages to those on the streets and serving with Harvest Street Mission. In January 2022, Ashlynd and her family, distributed donations as part of an event, hosted by the Mission from Mars community service organization.
This year, in addition to collecting donations, Ashlynd is selling bracelets and keychains at Berry Vine Gifts (Bradford Woods) with a portion of all sales going toward her shopping fund for “Ashlynd’s Homeless Project.”
In preparation for another distribution event, Warba has been organizing donations and shopping for other items, using any monetary donations that she has received for the cause. In December 2022, Mars Area Elementary School held a collection to support “Ashlynd’s Homeless Project.”
