Fourth-grader Cuts Long Hair for Cause

Jack Romig had plans to get his next haircut in March 2020, just before the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic gripped the community and the nation.

With no prospects for visiting the barber any time soon, Jack, now a fourth-grader at Mars Area Elementary School, asked his mom, Angela, if he could keep growing his hair and eventually donate his locks to a charity that makes wigs for kids with medical conditions that result in hair loss.

“I’m pretty proud of him,” says Angela Romig, noting how impressed she has been with her son’s commitment to growing out his hair.

On Sept. 1, Jack visited the Social Club Barbershop (Mars) and sat down in a barber’s chair for the first time in more than two years, ready to bid farewell to his long hair. His 11.5-inch locks were braided, cut and packaged, ready to be donated to Children with Hair Loss, which makes free wigs for children in need.
