Mars Area High School junior Ian Messina, along with members of Boy Scout Troop 400 and their families, worked to refurbish the outdoor classroom at Mars Area Elementary School on May 14.

Messina planned and raised funds for the project, which he managed and directed as a requirement to earn his Eagle Scout ranking. The volunteers cleaned the trails leading to the outdoor classroom; laid gravel and stepping stones; and replaced the wood bench seating and lectern.
