Mars Area Elementary School STEAM teacher Colleen Hinrichsen was named an inaugural Allegheny County Intermediate Unit (AIU3) transformED Teaching Fellow.
Hinrichsen is one of 17 teachers, representing 15 school districts, across the region to be awarded the fellowship, which aims to bring together teachers interested in instructional innovation and developing new approaches to teaching and learning.
“The pandemic has forced schools to think innovatively and creatively about teaching and learning. Overnight, our conception of school changed,” says Tyler Samstag, AIU3 Director of Instructional Innovation. “This fellowship was developed in response to districts looking to innovate and a demand for opportunities for teachers to learn.”
Fellows will learn collectively with their peers in sessions held through the remainder of the school year. In addition, each fellow will receive a $1,500 classroom mini-grant and the District will receive a $1,000 stipend.
The Grable Foundation and the Henry L. Hillman Foundation provided grant funding to support the fellowship. For details, visit www.aiu3.net/Page/5097.
