Members of Mars Area High School’s Science National Honor Society chapter will offer a “STEAM Day” activity for students in second through fourth grades from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, at Mars Area Elementary School.

Elementary students will rotate between six stations focused on chemistry, physics and general science. Activities will include “Chemistry Becomes Ice Cream,” “Creating a High Pressure Environment,” “Elephant Toothpaste,” “The Tornado,” “The Van de Graaff Machine” and “What is Oobleck?”

The program is meant to spark and, hopefully, to encourage an interest in science-related course and topics among the younger students, says Eric Harsh, Mars Area High School teacher. Many of the Science National Honor Society members fondly remember a similar experience that they had when in elementary school and wanted to “pass it on” to the next wave of Mars Area students.
