Activity Offers Review of Figurative Language

Third-graders in Amanda Morello’s class at Mars Area Elementary School walked the red carpet as they joined in a figurative language runway show on Jan. 26.

The activity concluded the students unit,  in which they learned about the different types of figurative language (communication that does not use a word’s actual meaning), specifically, hyperbole, idiom, metaphor, onomatopoeia, personification, and simile

Students dressed in outfits representing a different type of figurative language, and asked their classmates to name the type as they walked the runway. The third-graders then joined in a scavenger hunt to find representations of each type of figurative language hidden around the classroom.
